Almond Milk Yogurt

Almond Milk Yogurt

Almond milk can also be made into almond milk yogurt for enjoyment as a healthy and nutritious snack.

Animal milk can usually ferment on its own and turn into yogurt because it naturally contains fermenting bacteria. But for the almond milk to ferment, live culture or bacteria known as the yogurt starter needs to be mixed manually to the milk.

The consistency of the milk is also not that thick, this therefore means that the almond yogurt produced is also not as thick as those produced out of animal milk. Commercial manufacturers of almond yogurts often add thickeners you achieve that ideal yogurt consistency.

Almond milk yogurt contains minimal amount of protein and calcium, the almond type contains higher concentrations of Vitamin D, E, manganese, selenium, potassium, magnesium, iron, zinc, phosphorus, and fibers.

You can make your own almond milk at home, then turn it into almond milk yogurt. Today I am going to use store bought Silk Pure Almond Milk Original to make almond yogurt.

You will also need Vegan yogurt starter.

You need:

  • Thermometer;
  • Dried and cleaned jar(s) or container(s);
  • Cooler to keep the warm temperature; (You can use yogurt maker, or other methods from this website to make homemade yogurt).
  • A big bottle to have some hot tab water, to maintain the temperature.

Let's Start:

  • Pour 3 cups of almond milk into Mason jar, and microwave high power for about 2 mins, to make the milk reach to 108°F.

(If your milk temperature is higher than 110°F, you have to wait it cool down to around 108°F, or it will kill the bacteria.)

  • Get ready for the Vegan yogurt starter, use scissors to cut it open;

  • Add Vegan yogurt starter into the milk and stir it well;

  • Add lids on the jar(s), but not tie it;
  • Move bottle(s) to cooler, I have one big bottle contain tab hot water in it to keep the cooler warm. You can use any other method to keep the temperature, then cover it;

  • After 8 hours, the almond milk turned into almond milk yogurt and it needs to move into refrigerator, let it sits and chills about 4-6 hours or over night;
  • Here is the fresh homemade almond yogurt. This yogurt will not thick, because I didn't add any thickening agents.I like what comes nature, and taste better too.

If you want thicker yogurt you can add tapioca starch, Ultra-gel, agar and some other thickeners.
